Inaugural meeting of The Nervemeter Council

Studio Voltaire

2013

This event has already take place. You can listen to a recording of the meeting, watch the slide show, and listen to an interview with editors Ian Allison and Kieron Livingstone by Bonnie Camplin, in the think tank.

As part of her contribution to the How to work together think tank, Bonnie Camplin has invited The Nervemeter to hold their inaugural council meeting at Studio Voltaire on 31 August 2013. The Nervemeter is an autonomous, non-profit magazine which is sold on the street by the homeless. Bonnie has been a regular contributor since the magazine was launched by co-founders Ian Allison and Kieron Livingstone  in 2011 .

An experimental business project in the form of a publication, The Nervemeter is produced by artists and writers and is distributed via a network of homeless individuals. This event will follow the baroque results and responses that continue to grow and unfold from the circulation of the magazine, to form a dense and intricate pattern of involvement.

During an afternoon of texts, recordings and performance, The Nervemeter will reveal a picture of its own experimental—perhaps perverse—working model of value creation and exchange, collaboration, and cold hard business.

The Nervemeter will invite members of the publication’s distribution network to explain the benefits, conflicts and instances of cooperation in their own words.

Participants will be invited by The Nervemeter to engage in a seminar around subjects of:

The demonic/value suck-up of Capital and its correlations with greed, consumption and addiction as well as with concepts of control, domination and surrender.

The subtle levels of exploitation that can be inherent to certain interventionist/sympathising/do-gooding/otherness-tourism/’moral-selving’ initiatives and to what extent or where on this spectrum The Nervemeter may be hovering.

The possibility of whether an alternative and generative economic model can invert or modify the perceived ideal ratio of value to economic return that defines our understanding of business.

This event is a drop-in, it’s free and there is no need to book.

Visit The Nervemeter website for more information, to view past issues and to support the magazine.

(Please note, this event was originally advertised as Bonnie Camplin, WORK IS THE TRANSFER OF ENERGY FROM ONE SYSTEM TO ANOTHER. Bonnie Camplin chose to invite The Nervemeter to present the event in her place.)
